I've had numerous disappointments in my job search here in DC. Everything from showing up and being ghosted, to being screened on the phone and then being ghosted, to even being contingently hired by TSA after passing computer exam and filling out a five hour national security questionnaire and then being delayed with no timetable. Online application submissions have had a contact success rate (hearing back from employer) of about 5% on a good month. Only jobs that have been enthusiastic are minimum wage and desperate for temporary help. DC is not the job Mecca I thought it was. Either that, or I'm the most unqualified and stupid applicant alive. People talk about 50k a year jobs here like they are McDonalds toilet jobs, but I can't get response from jobs that pay 30.

The forum helps me deal with job hunting stress, or more accurately, job hunting doldrums.

As as change of pace, as a way of reaching out and connecting with others (since I'm not currently around people), as a way of staying mentally sharp, as a way of communicating and exchanging information...

Thank you City-Data forum!

Smile Tip to Stay Encouraged in Job Search

I have experienced to be in the same boat and what helped me stay positive in job search is to read tips and career advice from resume sites and career advice sites. Let's face it, not everyone is willing to give you somewhat detailed pieces of advice but these guys. So here are some of my favorites:

How Hashtags Can Help You in Your Job Search
Conquering 2019 Job Search Trends
Resume Action Words You Can Use

I try to apply what I read in my job search especially when it comes to changes to trends. You never know, it would greatly affect your chances when recruiters know that you're updated with the industry.

Hope this tip helps you!

It might be the worst "yes" of your life though. Once your savings are fully depleted and you're clinically depressed you get an offer from an overnight kennel attendant job (paying the federal minimum wage of $7.25) a thirty minute drive away.
