Hello,

About 2-3 months ago, I applied to a position at a company and went through a phone interview with the hiring managers. I thought it went well but I ended up not getting the position.

Fast forward till now, a different position that is not the same, but very similar in roles to the first position I applied to is now open.

Would it be okay for me to apply for this position? I just worry what if it's with the same exact hiring managers again? This is a very large company but with the position being in the field that it is I feel it might be the same hiring managers but not entirely sure.

With that being said though, these two positions while similar, ask for different level of skill sets of which I am comfortable doing.

Do you guys think it's a good idea to still go ahead and apply?

Thanks!

Yes, why not? Just because they didn't choose you once doesn't mean they won't again. For all you know, you were their second choice in the first scenario. Unless you are applying for jobs you're vastly unqualified for (like applying for every opening they have willy-nilly), or had a bad interview in which you know they turned you off or they essentially told you they would never be interested in you, I don't see a reason not to do it a second time. It might show how interested you are in this particular company.

(I once got a job at a place where I was not chosen for the first job I interviewed for, but applied for others there later and got one of those.)

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a shot, it's a position I feel I am qualified for and feel like I can definitely do.

It may be the same hiring manager, it may not. Not being selected to move on in the process is not the same thing as being disqualified for the position. If you are interested in the job, apply for it.

Sometimes the hiring manager will cold call you before they post the job externally to invite you to interview. Since it's been 2-3 months, it's possible they might assume that you found a job. I say go for it, if they offered you an interview for a past position, they at least thought you were qualified to work for them.
