We will find out soon enough. People in Japan go out in ways where it's hard to find out what happened. And their Govt fudges the stats. Here people do it guns blazing...Literally. We'll see it on the news...

I would think these people would be ideal to tap for terror networks.

Don't forget the temp agencies. Lots of production jobs will only use temp agencies anymore. I too am in a small town. Looking for work.

So far freelance writing seems to be doing it for me. I'm also planning to sign up as a tutor and do some substitute teaching.

The only problem I'm having with the tutoring is preparing for the interview, and I've been putting it off.

I kind of hope things don't get that bad for people. I think from what I've seen, the most unfortunate among us either become chronically homeless or turn to drug use and sales. Of course, homelessness and drug use are against the law in many places, so then they go to jail, which results in a felony charge, which voids degrees, bars them from certain kinds of employment, makes work even harder to find, and so on. It's a vicious circle that I really wish people would take a closer look at.

In some parts of the country, though, there are programs in place to help people from falling into that pattern by allowing legal homelessness and other forms of support.

I'm from a small metro in Appalachia.

Fast food, retail, and some casual dining type places like Olive Garden are basically always hiring. The big national retailers are hiring, but it takes longer.

Look for a local business where you can talk to the hiring manager directly.

Normally my ability to concentrate goes way down when I'm under stress, so I'm not sure restaurant jobs are a good idea.
