I have a pending misdemeanor class b drug possession charge. I want to get a job as a dishwasher/kitchen steward at MGM Springfield in Massachusetts. The company that's doing the background check is Hireright. I wonder if they will consider hiring me with a pending class b drug possession misdemeanor. I have no idea because Massachusetts is a "ban the box" state. So, I don't know what they look for as far as the criminal background check goes. I really don't wanna waste my time and get rejected.

I don't see why drug possession charge, misdemeanor, would keep someone from getting a job as a dishwasher. It probably would if you applied to a healthcare facility, though. Ask the employer if it is a problem. Many people applying for jobs do have misdemeanors in their background, they get hired anyway.

Just apply. Answer what's asked and that's it.
Most applications ask about felonies, not misdemeanors. AND -- you haven't been convicted. So best to apply while the issue is pending. I highly doubt you'll be asked if you have any pending misdemeanors.

You are applying at a casino and they are state regulated (gaming and all). But still, just apply. You have no idea what they'll ask or find out.

I don't see that you have anything to lose by applying . Do you have any other job offers overflowing your mailbox? You said: "I really don't wanna waste my time and get rejected. Is you time so valuable you can't take a chance at a job you want? If you don't apply, you know you won't get it.
