I emailed my resume and received this response the next day

"I am acknowledging receipt of your resume for our review and consideration.

We anticipate being in touch with you within ten (10) business days for further information/directions.

Please be patient with us in this process."

Thank you,

Hey at the very least they said 10 days! Most emails never give a timeline.

Yes, rarely is an operation so carefully planned that 10 days has any real meaning to them. They will get back to you if they need to or not.

That was likely a reply from their HR software, and not from a real person. Someone likely accessed the applicants online and that system sent out the message to them automatically.

It should say it is an automated message sent by their HR software instead of giving the appearance that a real person (ie. I am...) actually put any thought behind sending out that e-mail message.

That's an automated acknowledgment of them receiving your resume. No response needed on your part. Keep going with your search.

So if I don't hear anything by the end of next week then I know I was not selected.
