well seems as tho once again, TVSOAPOPERAguy, has stirred up a whole pot of stew, the reality of the corporate world, companies with a decent HR dept, will respond and follow up with an email or a letter. Out of 30 job interviews and applications filled out, I've received less than 10 responses, whether email or postal thanks but no thanks. Used to be, if you had an interview, you were guaranteed a postal response of thank you for applying, but, we've chosen another candidate. Then, in the last couple years, it was, if you filled out an application, you would get an email thanking you for applying, if you are chosen as one of the weeded out candidates we'll let you know, otherwise, no news is all you'll get. Now, you may get one response out of 10 apps you fill out. I send my resume to at least 20 companies every other week, get maybe 4 thank you's. Don't expect today's world to be ethical, follow-up. Im sorry, its not gonna happen. You can preach to us that are trying to give the OP a hard dose of reality thru sarcasm that we're being hard on him, but really, we're helping him more than someone that is telling him, no, that person should do that, you just sit back and expect that from them. It is not gonna happen. The Unemployment rate is such that people just don't have to be like that, its sad, but its true. Courtesy, and follow thru is not common-place. So those of you that enable his "victim wo-is me attitude" you're not helping him get a job. You're helping him stay at home and enjoy his pity party. Which, by reading from his posts, he wants.

I've worked with someone in HR and they simply do not have the time to 'thank everyone' who applies.

I think you have to just apply for a job and move on, TV guy...if they call, don't get your hopes up...I know it's hard not to (I do it, too, thinking maybe this unemployment nightmare is finally over). Just keep applying, keep trying and the right job WILL come.

You will not have chase the right 'person' down with phone tag. You will be okay, just take a break, go out today, breathe, and regroup. Get away from this board and your job search for a day.

Send the letter. Regardless of how an interview goes or whether or not you get a job you always want to follow up with a letter.

I do minimal work and pay nothing out at all - it costs me nothing but time - the money I earn is going to go towards a treat for me when I am better - but I know people who do this full time and earn 1000's a week!

Try the site I use http://cashcrate.com/1145800 if you like, but I am sure there are loads of other options and sites out there!

Good Luck!
Good Lord, are you going to spam every forum on the site?

Just out of curiosity I looked at the CashCrate site. Quickly join for free - and not only provide your name and address but your email address and password too. That was it for me! Cheers!

Well I called but got her voicemail so I'm not expecting a call back so that's it I guess. But I was invited to a dinner in New York City with a bunch of Politicians on Thursday Night by a friend so I think I will go just to get away and clear my head for a minute. That invitation couldn't have come at a better time.

Great- go out and enjoy yourself.

If you get into a discussion about your job search, don't spew the negative, just sya it's really tough to get a call back in this market. That you know it's a matter of time. Things like that.

Be UPBEAT. Even if someone says how HR folks stink, just smile and say, well, I agree they should followup, but with so many layoffs, many are probably doing the work of two people. Things like that.

Don't go negative. You'll never know who you speak to that will know someone who will know someone.

Yeah this will be my first time going to NYC since 1999 so it's defintely going to be something different and not a typical unemployed thursday.
