You've obviously never worked in any capacity as police/fire/EMS or other first responder. My husband is a volunteer EMT, he's been cursed out, spit on, screamed at, had every insult you can think of plus some tossed at him.

I've held a bunch of jobs in retail. I had a woman curse me out and toss her kids sneaker at me because I couldn't give her full price for a return of an item we hadn't carried for over a year without a receipt. I had another lady curse me out because I caught her shoplifting--um, I wasn't the criminal, but she sure acted like I was. You wouldn't believe how brutal the public can be.

Rude behavior during a job interview would leave a bad impression of the company. I think a better way to see if a candidate would "fit in" or be able to handle the stress would be a contract to hire position instead. It would give the employee and employer a good feel for each other in the actual day-to-day work environment. Also asking the right questions and being completely honest with a candidate during the interview is the most respectful way IMHO.

I handle it by walking out the door.
