Hi,

I'm from Europe and I plan to move to US to explore the country for some time and I'd like some advice about getting a job over there. I have two degrees, one in nursing and one in IT. My nursing degree (4 years) has been completed within the High School education so it's not recognized by the authorities in the States but my Associate's will be so I'm in a dilemma.

1. Should I complete a course for an LPN or an EMT?

2. Or should I compete with Indians for a job as a computer programmer (ASP.NET/C# developer)

The reason why I'm asking is because I don't know how hard is it to get a job as an LPN or better yet as an EMT (and later Paramedic), I'm not familiar with the market saturation. I'm not sure whether is it worth signing up for a course (6months - 2years, depends) or should I look for low paying jobs in the IT sector?

The competition is rough, Indians ruined everything for the rest of us. I'm asking for the area of NYC and/or Chicago.

EMT work pays very little in most of the US.

The first question, how are you going to get a work visa? It's doubtful you'd be sponsored for an LPN or EMT job.

If you had a BSN, you would have a better shot. But LPN is just 1 year of nursing school. If you had more schooling and then came over, you'd have a much better chance.
