As already stated, the same jobs that are listed on LinkedIn are on three other sites that I also check! Yes, it's very cool to see folks asking questions/making statements about things dealing with Logistics and Supply, but those folks ARE WORKING......not looking for a job, like me!
LinkedIn was suppose to be a good help for unemployed people, like how???

Linkedin is not a way for a unemployed person to find a job, only employed people who are recommended for positions from other employed people. People who I sent a connection request to didn't accept until I found a job.

I'm not that much younger than you and was unemployed earlier this year--not by choice. I found a job in under eight weeks because I was able to put more on the table outside the actual scope of what the job required. That's pretty much what you need to do in these times, and if you can't, you either need to lower your employment expectations or take classes to obtain additional skills.

I couldn't disagree more. I personally know at least a dozen people who were unemployed and found new jobs as a direct result of LinkedIn.

If you think of me like this and have all of this advice, why aren't you the President or CEO of a company. You sure sound like you could be!
Now, what I do regret, is that I didn't take my career higher when I was younger. That I didn't get a college degree and or certification. But, then again, years ago neither was asked for that much in my area of work.

In all honesty, you don't have a lot of job skills. We've all heard about you having your own calculator and computer--big whoop! That means nothing, it's standard issue for anyone who works in an office. I suppose you had your own red Swingline stapler as well.

Well, then, TV, maybe you should be telling that to the career outplacement centers, because that's what mine told a webinar full of people across the United States to do. I've Linkedin, and so what?

I agree, what good does it really do? None of the people I know are in companies that are hiring. Some of them don't even work at a company; they have their own businesses or in the case of two people, defunct businesses that aren't accomplishing anything.

I'm just realistic and have common sense--attributes found in most people who are successful in their career (not just a "job").

I have been accepted into three Purchasing/Inventory Management Groups. I am currently employed, but it is my own in-home small business that is making no money right now. But, I list it as my current employment because I have a credit card, business cards and am on a national website. Part of what I do for my business is purchasing office/photography supplies.

To OP
Don't worry about networking. I have real network (not virtual) of several hundred people and at this economy nothing works.
Retirement is solution for your situation.
