That's funny, I just had a really similar experience. Awful cold/flu the week before my interview, to the point I spent the 48 hours beforehand worried I was going to wake up with laryngitis the day of the interview, and I kept struggling not to cough during the interview. All three hours of it.
.
I had the flu and a job interview the same week. I put off the interview till the Friday of that week to hopefully recover but I had a serious fever when I went there. It was on top of a herbal/candle shop and the smell was horrible (lots of sickly odors). Glad I didn't get that one. (There was no parking for cars, either..I don't get these up north towns. Miles and miles of land but never any parking at any of the job sites.
I stopped at the gas station on the way to an interview and locked my keys in the car. After four random guys tried to unsuccessfully break in for me (after I frantically told everyone in the vicinity that I was on my way to an interview), I had to call the interviewer 30 min before our appt and explain what happened. He seemed fine and rescheduled, but I didn't get the job.
I think that locking your keys in the car story had a lot to do with it-lol
I had a third interview at a company. The first and second were with a manager and then a manager and director. It wa to the point that salary negotiations were complete, I had a final interview--with the president of the company, and as long as that went well, I would get the job.
We sat in the conference room, and her assistant brought in a cup of coffee for her and set it down on the corner of the coffee table. The chairs in this room had really 'fast" wheels on them and were "tippy" feeling. When the president came into the room I went to stand up and the chair felt like it was going to tip over with me in it. I reached out to grab something--anything to steady myself, and knocked the coffee over, it went all over the table and even began to drip onto the floor.
I was mortified.
Her assistant came in with some paper towels and I helped her clean it up. The president seemed unfazed by it, and said, "It happens, no big deal." I really liked working for that company.

Glad you got that job despite spilling the coffee. I would have been mortified myself had that happen to me.
About the only one I can recall that was the least bit embarrassing was applying as a receptionist and being told that they were really looking for a woman to take the job.

That's not right. For all they knew, you could have been perfectly suited for the position.

I happen to have excellent diction--however, gender discrimination happens on both ends.
