i do not see what in that article shows SECULAR israelis at odds with american Jews

in fact, I see this

"The majority of Israelis appear at odds with their religious authorities.

According to a recent survey conducted for Israel's Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, 63% of Israelis believe those converted by non-Orthodox rabbis should be regarded as Jews"

Default Review: Who Is a Jew

Who is a Jew?

So it seems it's in flux. Very important determination for a Jewish Nation. In the meantime, I accept as a universal Bible ( separate from The Trope Trainer/Davka Soncino Talmud/HaKoran /Tefilla Trainer are what I consider MY JUDAISM,) the COMMON ENGLISH BIBLE because IIRC it contains 84 books, 83 of which are written by Jews. Luke, it seems, is the only non-Jewish author.

Otherwise, my opinions are too controversial.

I might offer this personal experience. My now 'ex daughter-in-law converted to Judaism by a Rutgers Rabbi. He was new and it was his first conversion and marriage. It was my introduction to Reconstruction Judaism and a really Jewish teaching ceremony and fun. 95% of the guests were Christians. It was a fun wedding with the Rabbi explaining everything. This was in New Jersey. We had a local celebration in Maryland a couple of weeks later.

As for the prior conversion, this Rabbi recommended that it be a team supervised by a an Orthodox Rabbi. My son's fiancée back then said she was told she was a card-carrying Jew, accepted by Israel.

That's all folks. That's how you actually become Jewish forever. Your children are born Jewish.

For my divorce, the Rabbi in charge of my bat mitzvah suggested that I include a "get" in my divorce so I could remarry. The "get" was included in my divorce 1981-2.
