I overheard the beginning of a debate in which the same serving spoon is not to be used for the chicken and the brisket at the Seder. They are both kosher meats, so why could you not use the same serving utensils?

I'm a vegetarian, but this statement intrigued me. Do you think perhaps I did not hear correctly or something?

You sure this was about kashrut, and not general etiquette, or culinary preferences? Some people (most orthodox people, but NOT folks who follow the opinions of the C movement) seperate meat from fish - maybe someone got confused?
