When I was in my teens, I picked up a non-fiction book at the library I have never gotten out of my mind.

It was about a captured soldiar that escaped imprisonment from one of the camps during the Holocaust.

He was actually stripped naked and put in a line up of people who were shot ,however, he somehow was not hit by the any of the bullets. He played dead and eventually got carted out with the other bodies and managed to escape the camp, but the rest of the story is about how he survived in the woods under difficult circumstances, hid in people's barns in secret, etc., until he finally made his way to freedom.

It sound horrific, but I could not put it down. I have never been able to recall the title or author.

Any suggestions? Another poster in "Books" suggested I ask about it here.

There are 100's of books and films that have this scenario in them. To find the exact one you are looking for is like finding a needle in a 1000 acre field. Sorry.

That's Frankl's book isn't it? I read it decades ago, but I don't remember him being a soldier, he was a psychiatrist even before the war, I believe.

Thanks for all the help. With your suggestions, I believe I have found it, it's called "Leap into Darkness".

Again, thanks!
