My dad is Vietnamese, mom Ashkenazi Jewish so I do look somewhat "exotic" and know what it's like to stand out in a crowd of pasty white Ashkenazi Jews in a Jewish setting. It's easy for white folks to dismiss racism so I'll be a little honest with you. Prepare to get one or two stares when you enter a NEW Jewish setting where people don't know you. They don't know whether you're a Jew, a friend/partner of a Jew, or (especially if you are of darker skin) part of "the help". The last assumption can be incredibly hurtful and insulting, and I really hope that you never experience it. Now notice that I mentioned "NEW". Once you've been going to the same synagogue and people learn who you are, people will recognize you as one of the regulars and you'll be part of the social scene like any other Jew. I know of a few Jews of Color (JOCs) bloggers, some born Jews, some converts, and would be happy to point them out to you if you want.

As a side note, I'm not trying to dismiss racism at all, but I can assure you I got stared at too and most people would not even greet me the first few months. It was very unpleasant, to be completely honest. I was met with suspicion and stares. Would it be even worse if I were a person of color? Maybe, or probably.
