In the religion and Spirituality forum: Non Jews think about Judaism thread you quote the following in response to a poster who claimed Christianity was a form of Judaism.

Quote:
Can't be a branch of Judaism if you deny the 613 mitzvot, halacha, and the central idea of Judaism --> HaShem is G-d, HaShem is One.
So how do you reconcile this statement with your insistence that newly formed "branches" are legitimate forms of Judaism?

Hey, tikva's statement is an awesome one. Let's admire the emes in it. No need to ask tough questions about it.

Rather than recreating the wheel, I will link and quote what I have learned and believe in regards to Reform Judaism and Halacha.

Quote:
Halakhah is a heritage that belongs to us as it belongs to all Israel. Its continued vitality in Reform Judaism links us to the religious expressions of other Jews, uniting us with them as part of a community whose history spans many countries and many generations. This does not mean, however, that rabbinic law and its literature function for us in exactly the same way as they function for other Jews. Just as we have our own particular experience as a modern Jewish religious movement, so do we have our own unique approach to halakhah which emerges from that experience.
[Later in the piece]
...Our responsa do not claim this sort of authority because, however important it may be to the definition of our religious practice, we do not regard halakhah as a process which yields mandatory conclusions.

My comment in that thread was more towards refuting the assertion that Christanity is a sect of Judaism. It really isn't because it denies concepts that are central to all forms of Judaism (Mitzvot, Halacha, and Oneness of HaShem). I recognize that there is no way of "winning" an argument with you or TFF, so this will be the last thing I state in regards to this subject. Judge away.

The thread that keeps on giving:

Quote:

How does a law or literature "function"? Who are "other" Jews, and isn't that a declaration of secession from the general Jewish population?

That's because neither of us states our own opinion, and you can't win against G-d. It would be nice if you recognized that instead of cursing us out as you did in the other thread.

I'll let HaShem judge me, not you. Thanks for playing.

Cursing you out? I just put forth my opinion that you and TFF wander into threads, take a dump on it and any Jews that are not as observant as you. Cursing you out would be to actually attack you verbally and personally, and I have not done that. I just like pointing out that you and TFF very infrequently add to a constructive discussion and generally do the complete opposite.

When you or I state the emes, Tikva throws a hissy fit.

From my research Chistianity started out as The Way, a Judaic sect, that much is evident from 1st century historians...What it has turned into is what the Greeks and Roman did to it...Even though many Christians claim Yeshua claimed to be G-d, I see no such statement...And the fact that it is recordedby secular writers that Gentile Christians were attending synagogue to learn the ways of HaShem, tells me someone railroaded the Christian sect away from the Truth and created a whole new religion...
