There may be a lot of groups in that list, but all Chassidic groups stem from the founder of Chassidus, Rabbi Yisrael ben Eliezer, the Baal Shem Tov. He lived from 1698-1760 in what is now Ukraine.

He is credited with bringing Judaism back to the common people, who were disconnected from it. During the late 1600s, European Jewry was reeling from the devastation wrought by the pogroms of 1648-1649 . The massacres had left tens of thousands of Jews dead, and the grief-stricken survivors struggled to rebuild their broken lives and communities. Very few families could provide a proper Torah education for their children. This resulted in a generation of largely ignorant, yet pious and devoted Jews who were, for the most part, neglected and scorned by the learned elite. The Baal Shem Tov stepped in to help heal this rift.

The heart of Chassidus is serving Hashem with joy.
