Do many non-orthodox Jewish women cover their hair when in public? (with a wig, tichel, etc).

As far as I know non-Orthodox women don't cover their hair at all unless it is cold or they have medical issue or they are visiting a synagogue or the Western/Wailing Wall.

I know of several who will use a hat or scarf to cover their hair when in public.

Tell me more. Why would they do so? For modesty? Do they try to keep other mitzvos, or just this one is special to them? Do these women wear doylies on their head when in shul, cause that's (incredibly) usser.

We've gone over your misconceptions of non-orthodox Jews time and time again, tff.
Regardless of what affiliation we claim, we are all individuals and follow halakhah to differing degrees.

It was a sincere question. So you say they're covering their hair for modesty. I think that's great. I have found that the laws of tahara hamishpakas and modesty in general are generally some of the last ones that non observant Jews are likely to follow.

I was asking the question out of curiosity. I live in an area where there are very few Jews (which is probably why I can't find a REAL bagel anywhere).

From what I've heard and read, a religious Jewish woman (whether orthodox or not) may cover her hair out of modesty, believing that only her husband should see it.

You've crosses the gray area into insulting woman in general. Women cover their hair for numerous reasons and whatever those reasons are none of your business. To say it's incredibly forbidden is what is forbidden.

Since you can't read the Tanakh in Hebrew/Aramaic, I'll give you a few sections to think about.

Beresheeet 24:65
And she said unto the servant: 'What man is this that walketh in the field to meet us?' And the servant said: 'It is my master.' And she took her veil, and covered herself.

What does taharat hamishpaha (sex between a man and a menstruating woman) have anything to do with this thread??
