Would it be offensive to religous Jews if I took a Hebrew Name for my handle? I love the Hebrew language and I'm tired of my current handle.

Actually, if I could change my name legally I would

If you want to change your name, send a DM to one of the two Sr. Moderators, Yac and markablue. They can do it for you. And several members have done it just this week.

What ontheroad said. I changed my name to start with too.

I can't see why changing your username to something in Hebrew would be offensive (just so long as it isn't a bad word or something). Go for it I say.

You can change your name legally. I did after I turned age 40. I appeared before a judge and paid costs incurred and it is now a legal name change. Go online or call your state courthouse to find out. Many cultures it is done at stages of life to change name.

The only problem I encountered was banks not wanting to cash or deposit checks in my old name, so keep copy of the legal name change document. It is kind of a nuisance but to me well worth it. If you have a strong desire, especially if it is towards a personally meaningful name, then go for it.

I tried my "new name" on for about 6 months before I legally changed it.

Thanks! Not so sure I really want to change my name legally. I've never much cared for "Victor", but as long as my parents are alive I won't change it.

BTW, Lior Arel (roughly) tranlates to Angel of My Light, but it's the two names themselves that mean something to me

I love both the sound and the holiness of the Hebrew language. I regularly borrow prayers and especially like the Hebraic names and pronunciation for the angels and archangels, Gab-ri-el, Ratz-i-el, Uri-el, Tzaphki-el and a host of others! As far as the other question in your post, no I don't see anything offensive about it, you are using it with reverence and respect.
