I don't know what the Talmud is, so I'm trying to find out by searching online.

I came across this link that claims to be quoting from the Talmud.

What is the Talmud? If this is part of it, it goes a long way to explain to me why some Jews appear to despise gentiles.

I'm not going to click on that link. No offense, but I have seen collections of supposed quotes for many years. They fall into a number of categories, including (but not limited to)

1. flat out invention
2. half a statement taken out of context or mistranslated
3. legal and technical statements with particular use not to be generalized
4. statements made as part of a legal argument, not as normative thought

If you want, you can go through sites like this

and

as a starting point.

If the Talmud is an "Oral" thing, not written down, then of course there is no way to define what it is. I only asked because certain Jews have mentioned it in the Christianity forum.

I am pretty sure there are as many types of Jews (sects) as there are variations of Christians.

The talmud is the written account of what we call the oral torah from Sinai. The mishna was edited and written down about 1800 years ago. The gemara was written down soon after as an account of the conversations about the mishna that had been had over the years. What we call, though, the entirety of the oral law is this talmud and other complementary texts plus some more recent ones. Even though some always existed in written form, because it is centered on the methodology and approach of the mishna, it is called the oral law.

Thanks, rosends. Sure is a lot of silence here concerning the Talmud. I will continue to research it because I am very curious about what is written in it, particularly what it says about Jesus Christ.
