The "two of the Jewish community’s most celebrated writers, Michael Chabon and his wife Ayelet Waldman" are unknown to me. That doesn't mean that they are uncelebrated, but it DOES mean that they are NOT among the most celebrated. I invite all on C-D to link to the quotations of their statements, in order to see for yourselves what they claim "American Judaism" to be, or not to be.

Judaism has nothing to do with their communist bridgebuilding outlook or opinions. The mere fact that some or many Jews hold a particular opinion does not make that opinion Judaism, even "American Judaism," as though that were some halachically defined entity.

Discuss among yourselves.

I agree with much of what is said in the article. But not the premise - that the Jewish left broke Judaism. They didnít break it - they mostly abandoned it. Judaism is still thriving in America. And yes, the strongest parts of the kílal resembles nothing like a liberal.

The fastest growing segment of Judaism in the USA is Orthodox

"Orthodox Jews are the fastest growing segment of the Jewish population. Orthodox Judaism is the only branch of Judaism in USA which has a net gain for each generation. Orthodox Jews have the lowest rate of intermarriage with the intermarriage rate decreasing each generation (6%-3%) while amongst non-Orthodox Jews the intermarriage rate is increasing (32%-49%).

"All the research indicates that within three generations there will be almost no trace of young American Jews who are currently not being raised in Orthodox homes with a complete Jewish Day School K-12 education."

American Jews are overwhelmingly Liberal.
“Jewish liberalism is real, and you can see it in every Presidential election, as 80-90% of the Jewish vote goes to the Democratic candidate. Every time.”
https://www.americanthinker.com

“Of the religions surveyed in the poll, Jews were found to be the least religious: Only 38 percent of the Jewish population worldwide considers itself religious, while 54 sees itself as non-religious and 2 percent categorizes itself as atheist. In comparison, 97 percent of Buddhists, 83 percent of Protestant Christians and 74 percent of Muslims consider themselves religious.”
https://www.haaretz.com/jewish/jews-...inds-1.5287579

Another study said that of Jews living in (1948 state of) Israel, 20% are atheist.

No religion - and no ethnicity for Ashkanazi (most) Jews - what’s left that’s really Jewish?
