Oh. I thought that was the name of the little creature on the 70s kids show “Land of the Lost.”
I've never seen that show. If the kids on that show were giving their pets funny Yiddish names, then perhaps they should have called it: "Land of the Lets."
I had a cat named Mazel and we named his sisters Ziva and Tierza (each name containing a "z"). We selected Mazel because we were saying how we felt he, in particular, was lucky that we had adopted him from the shelter as we were originally only going to take the two sisters and, at the last minute, decided to take him too. He was a great cat.

I once named a dog Pisha. My wife went to a dog show calling out that name and people came up to her speaking Hebrew and Yiddish (she speaks neither). She found out that day what the word meant. Sad to say I'm not allowed to name our dogs anymore.

Pruzhany, that made me laugh out loud! And, actually, "Pisha" is a pretty funny Yiddish name for a dog that maybe isn't house-trained so much.
