I'm Ashkenazi and my husband Sephardic. We have kitnyiot regularly. It's just whatever people feel more comfortable with. If you didn't grow up with kitnyiot , I guess it would be hard to get use to it later in life. I never kept no Chametz on Pesach before I met my husband. I started to keep Pesach after I was with him. That's why I don't have any issue to have kitnyiot at home.
