So - if you're a Christian and follow Jesus, you go to Heaven after you die. If not, straight to Hell! If you are a Muslim, yo go to Jahannat or Jahannam respectively. If you are a good observant Hindu or a Buddhist, you are freed of the cycle of reincarnation and karma.
What do you get if you are a Jew following the Law? Is there a promised reward in the hereafter? Or, what happens to the bacon-eating Jews? Spend an eternity in Shaol which is not Hell?
In other words, what is the return on investment on the 513 or however many mitzvot?

I do it because I love the Gd of my ancestors. I need no other reason.

"And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to reproaches and everlasting abhorrence."

-Daniel 12:2

Even though many Jews appear to be ignorant of this, the Hebrew Bible does indicate reward/punishment after the Resurrection of the Dead. However, I like to believe that most of us follow as many commandments as we can out of honest devotion to God. BTW, most of the ritual commandments are designed as reminders. They're not voodoo. Keeping the Sabbath and kosher, and tefillin, etc. all serve to constantly remind us of our religion and people, and they do in fact work in that regard if you follow them. Jews don't do every little thing because they're constantly frightened of "going to Hell", like some other religions.

Also, I don't think God would severely punish anyone just because they ate bacon. However, I would guess that you lose some "points" if you were raised in an observant home and you deliberately acted irreligious. Religious Jews believe in a cleansing process for the soul after we die. The "everlasting abhorrence" is hopefully reserved only for real monsters like murderers and rapists.

One more thing that is probably unique to Judaism: Many religious Jews believe that if all the Jews are righteous and observant, we can actually speed up the Redemption and Messianic Age.

There are 613 of them and hopefully I'll get a hotel with better amenities and more stars.
