I’m thinking this year ,I’d like to finally get a shofar. I have some items for my Jewish home, but haven’t gotten one yet. I just want it for hanging on the wall, or just on my display table. I’m not planning on using it yet.
I probably wouldn’t be able to anyway. ( No lung power).
I keep hearing stories about the smell , so I kept putting it off, but I have you guys now to ask.
Which ones smell the most( if they really do, in fact, smell) or don’t smell at all ?
Ram, antelope, or sheep? What’s the best way to clean? I see a lot of different sprays. Are there any favourite brands ,or scents/types?
Are the longer, slimmer ones harder to clean?
Where’s the best place to buy one?
What’s everyone’s favourite Judaica store?
What about sound and maintenance wise?
What about synthetic ones? I know that’s probably not kosher, but as I said, I don’t plan on blowing it.
Since you already seem to realize that there are laws in Judaism for the religious use of the shofar, and you're not planning to use the shofar inappropriately, here is a link to an article by Rabbi Menachem Posner that ought to answer some of your questions on how to choose a shofar. (I didn't see anything there, though, about an odor with shofars.)
My favorite Judaica store was J. Levine Books and Judaica, on 30th Street in Manhattan. But they recently closed. They are still taking online orders through their website, but it's not the same as browsing in an actual store.

I hope Judaica Plaza in Lakewood, NJ doesn’t close...

Exactly! One of my pet peeves is the Messianic churches. I can’t believe how they claim to be “ Jewish “.
I want to tear that shofar out of their hands. No, I won’t be like that.
I don’t need to blow it anyway.
I also hate them wearing Tallit, kippot, tefillin, ( that’s a big one) , Shabbat candles, forget about their Passover’s.
What’s “ Jewish “ about them? All Christians read both “NT “and “OT” testaments anyway.
Wow, how did I end up responding to myself? It was meant for Rachel. Well, we are in Vermont now. I lost LTE and “ no service “. When it came back on, it sent to me

LOL! I hear ya, about the messies. They're confused.
Right?...I love that place,,especially the book section in the back...Have you been there?...
I just checked out their online store. Wow! Amazing selection of books. And other stuff -- I'd never seen a Jerusalem edition of Monopoly before! I'd love to know what Jerusalem properties they used for Boardwalk and Park Place.
What else does everyone collect? I love dreidels. They're beautiful.
