I would be curious what a similar study would reveal about Sephardi ancestry; specifically if they also had such a high rate of intermarriage with the local female population (and clearly NOT losing their Jewish identity).
......specifically if they also had such a high rate of intermarriage with the local female population (and clearly NOT losing their Jewish identity).
With the Sephardi/Mizrahi ancestry and lineage as long as they held their lineage and did not intermarry with Ashkenazi's then it is extremely rare to find intermarriage. Once the integration with Ashkenazi's happened then the Sephardi/Mizrahi identity diminished highly within two generations as each generation became more secular. Also within Sephardi/Mizrahi circles divorces are extremely rare. I'm Mizrahi and I have no divorced family members in my lineage. OTOH my wife who is Ashkenazi divorce is in line with the national average.
Someone wrote that Jews do not have more than 5 children?
What?
I'm from Brooklyn and I have been in Israel and I am afraid that most Orthodox that I know personally have large families.
Outside of the Ultra-Orthodox world, the number is usually 2-3 children. That is because people work. The Ultra Orthodox that have large families live off of handouts and strain gov'ts of welfare funds. If you live in Bklyn, take a trip to a Williamsburg social services building and see who is standing there or drive up to Monsey and see for yourself how this group lives. Monsey is known, at least on paper, of having one of the highest poverty levels in the US. Yet they have large families, all have cars, all have houses and not one looks like they are living without anything. Its perception versus reality.
The idea that a majority of Orthodox Jews are "on the take" is obviously a hate filled myth. But we all bring our agendas to the table. Carry on.
He said ultra-orthodox. Isn't that different form Orthodox? Orthodox tend to be professionals from what I have seen. Doctors, lawyers, professors, etc. I don't think that is the case with the ultra-orthodox.
