Hi, I live in the UK and I've applied to volunteer with an organisation that is based in several US locations including Overland Park so I'm seeking information on whether it would be a nice place to live for a year.

The organisation provide housing so rent prices aren't an issue but would like to know what the weather is like, if there's lots to do etc. I'm in my late 20s and a Christian so somewhere with a good choice of churches/quite an active Christian community would be preferable. Is it generally a friendly place? Also, being black I'd like to know how diverse the area is and if there would be major racism issues?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Very friendly place, and you will fit in perfectly as a christian seeking christian communities, churches, church family life etc. It would a perfect fit for someone like you.. Climate is 4 seasons, I would look up either Kansas City Metropolitan area or Overland Park Kansas on wikipedia to get overview of climate.

The area should be good for you. Lots of churches and a very active Christian community. For the most part it's not too diverse relative to other major cities, but you shouldn't have any racism problems. The KC metro is a big place and a has lot to do. It may seem boring compared to a lot of British cities, I can't compare.

Most Christians here are Evangelical or protestant, such as Lutheran and Episcopalian.

Thanks for the info so far-The area I grew up and where I live now isn't very diverse, but I'm used to very little/no outward racism so I think it would be too much for me to go somewhere where that was a big problem.

racism isn't a problem in KC or any cities in the US for that matter.
