Hello All:

My company is considering opening an office in KC and wants to use a geographic identifier in the name (but not a city name). Much like a real estate office, dentist office or insurance office may. Example: "Big Real Estate Company - Stateline" or "National Dental Group - Heartland" or "Major Insurance Company - Plaza".

What are some identifiers (that are not city names) with positive geographic connotation to KC residents?

The examples above (stateline, heartland, plaza) are ones they are considering (dependent on final location). Leaning mostly toward "stateline" but want to make sure it doesn't conjure up a negative image in local residents minds.

Thoughts?

Where will it be located? I think stateline works well if its near the stateline

Plaza sounds more upscale if that's what you're going for.

An area they are seriously considering is somewhere within a couple of miles of the stateline between UMKC on the north and I435 on the south on MO side.

Brookside would also be a good one -- upscale neighborhood south of the plaza

What is your "market". You don't want to get too specific like Brookside or Waldo if your market is all of metro KC. Is your market KS and MO, just Jackson County, just south of the river, just the specific neighborhood you end up in?

Our market is the entire metro area (7-8 counties) hence the reason we want to avoid using a specific name like "Kansas City", "Brookside", "Waldo", etc.

A name like "Stateline" seems like a geographic identifier residents in both states could identify with as "local" but is still generic enough to represent the entire metro area. Other suggestions are also welcome.

BTW, is the name "Stateline" associated with any negative connotations around KC like seedy areas, crime, drugs, etc.?

Thanks for the good feedback, keep it coming.

Stateline doesn't have a "negative" image, but I think it does sometimes refer to a smaller part of the metro than what you are looking at. Many times, the "stateline" area is referred to as the area of KC around 435 and state line (Waldo, Brookside, Redbridge, Watts Mills, Leawood and Prairie Village. The name might push away people from the northland, blue springs, lees summit, kck etc. It might not, but you might want to think about that.

If you are looking at such a large area, why not "bistate", that eliminates the confusion with the state line road corridor. MoKan has been used as well. I'm sure it's overused, but midwest is another option.
