What is there to do in Kansas City??? Lots! If you plan to visit KC, visit this thread first...
Top things to do in Kansas City
I thought I would post a comprehensive thread of what there is to do in Kansas City. It’s a question often asked on this forum and others and with my photography and passion for my hometown, I thought I would create a thread that showcases what KC has to offer. I hope people like it and they find it useful and informative.
Please add more ideas as I'm sure I've missed some.
Barbecue! Kansas City has the best BBQ and it's always the number one thing people ask about. Arthur Bryant’s, Gates, Jack Stack, OK Joes, Smokehouse, Danny Edwards, LC’s, Rosedale, Winslow’s is just the beginning. I think Gates is a must if you can only hit one place. http://www.skylinescenes.com/gallery...e_280_1964.jpg (broken link) http://www.skylinescenes.com/gallery...e_282_2826.jpg (broken link)

Union Station
This place is just amazing. Even if there is nothing going on at the station, it’s well worth a visit just to see the building although most of the time there are popular traveling exhibits there and the model railroad exhibit is amazing. If you have kids, the IMAX and Planetarium are great and Science City is worth a visit. (don’t forget to walk cross the bridge behind the station which goes over the railroad tracks to the freight house where you will find Jack Stack, a great sit down BBQ place among others) Union Station, Kansas City, MO

Crown Center
This complex of shops, hotels and attractions south of Downtown is perfect for families with its central location and family friendly atmosphere. The square is home to concerts, movies, festivals and ice skating. The complex includes a 3 story shopping mall, a movie theater and several live theaters as well as the Hallmark visitors center and kaleidoscope, both are free. Crown Center also has some of KC’s best restaurants like the revolving Skies Restaurant 45 stories up and Frit’z Railraod Restaurant where trains bring food to your table! Kansas City Power & Light District
Kansas City’s new downtown “living room”. This entertainment district host many restaurants, theaters and night clubs. The AMC Mainstreet is one of the best theaters there is. The historic Midland host concerts, comedians etc, there are popular restaurants like Bristo and KC LIVE! is a two level night club district that is extremely popular on weekend nights. Power & Light District, Downtown KC
Truman Library and Truman Home
The Truman Library/museum is a well done and recently updated with modern exhibits that nicely showcase life of one of America’s more famous presidents. http://www.kcphotos.com/gallery/albu...ruman_1981.jpg (broken link)
Brush Creek River Walk
A great urban riverwalk for biking or walking. It connects to the popular trolley track trail near Main Street which takes you to Brookside/Waldo
Casinos
Kansas City has some of the largest Casinos in the Midwest and one of the largest in the country (Ameristar Kansas City). If you plan to visit the casinos, I would visit them in this order:
1. Ameristar 2. Harrah's, 3, Argosy, 4. Isle of Capri (Ameristar has a movie complex and concert arena and much more, Ameristar and Harrah's have large hotels)
The Sporting Kansas City soccer stadium
Another state of the art sports venue joins Kauffman, Arrowhead, Sprint Center and KS speedway and will be home of KC's MLS Soccer team. Sporting Kansas City
This is awesome KCMO. I am going to send a link to anyone who asks me "Why would you want to move to Kansas City?" The photos are just fantastic.
Thanks so much. This will benefit lots of folks.
I ate at Grunauer's last week, which is next to Jack Stack behind Union Station, and it has fantastic food. I'd recommend that to anyone visiting KC and not minding to splash a little bit of cash.
I have a question. I notice that you often post photos from kcphotos.com. These photos are copyrighted. Have you received express written permission to post these photos here? Because if not, what you are doing is wholesale copyright infringement. It clearly says at the bottom of every page on kcphotos.com that:
"All images and web content are copyright by Bill Cobb/KCPhotos.com unless specified otherwise, and may not be used without permission."
Thanks everybody, and please do add more ideas and keep this thread active. If you only knew how long it took me to build that post .
freestater. I own kcphotos.com and skylinescenes.com and took all photos on both websites. So I do have permission.
It is nice to know we are looking out for copyright interests on the web.
