Hi guys,
I was just wondering if any of you knew of any properties (apartments or homes) near UMKC that work with students? I am a current student there, but my daily commute each way is at least 30 minutes...the other night when it snowed at rush hour, it took me 4 hours to get home. Ick.
I really like that area of town (older, nicer homes, lots to do,etc). Anyways, I'm not a partier, I am very quiet and mostly keep to myself; I can't stand dirty places, so a dirty house/apartment would not fly with me.
What I'm looking for is a place with short-term leases, or a month-by-month would be AWESOME! But I realize these are few and far between. Any suggestions?
Oh, I almost forgot...the most I could swing for rent, per month, would be around $650. I know this is asking a lot, I just thought I would ask and see if anyone had any suggestions. If possible, I would like to stay within walking distance/short drive from campus. I would prefer a 1 BR 1 BA, but a nicer studio is ok too! I know there are several individuals who own homes in this area and rent out spaces/floors to students.
Thanks!!

I think this place might be sufficient, it's in a so-so area, not really walkable to anything, but I always hear them advertise during UMKC games on the radio and i think they had some kind of student special during the ad.

I have driven by there a couple times leaving costco and it looks like students live over in this building, its only about 5 months old

I would check out craigslist too and look for apartments in Union Hill, Volker, West Plaza and Westport but most of these apartments are fairly older.

Short-term leases are difficult to find, but at this time of year, if landords or property managers have availability they might work with you because it's one of the few ways they could fill the apartment before spring.

Westport Manor in Westport is very nice and clean, but the $599 special they offer is for a 13-month lease, so you'll have to see if they can work with you. There's several basic complexes off Rainbow right by KU Med that might work as well as many options, like Roanoke West in the West Plaza neighborhood. You'll have to do the leg work to find out if they'll do a short-term lease.

Most apartments in Volker or Union Hill will be vintage, which I suspect you'd find dirty.

I have toured Roanoke Court and think they are great, I eventually ended up leasing with Union Hills other property on 28th called Union Hill place. I can say, Union Hill is probably the best management company in KC. They will fix anything the next day and really work with you.
