So is KCK ahead of where they usually are at this time? Or is KCMO behind their norm?

I think KCK i just way above normal, they usually only average 25 murders a year or so, with this pace, they are headed for 50-60.
So far the count is 9-7 KCK
This could be the first year ever that the entire metro out paces KCMO
So far the tally is
7 KCMO
11 or 12 (I believe) Entire Metro

By sheer population, I'm sure KCMO will be ahead in the end. I'm not sure what's driving the KCK murders so far this year, but 85% of the homicides around here are drug-related.
((striking Olathe death investigation -- looks like alcohol overdose at this point))

I agree that crime is a concern everywhere. Just look at Chicago--so far this school year, over 20 children have been murdered due to gun violence. Last school year, I think it was around 35. That's just kids! But again, like all cities, these occur in the predictable neighborhoods and most--not all-- of the victims where related to gang violence. This is an unfortunate reality in all major cities in the US.

Olathe one was ruled homicide and KCMO cops killed a person last night, so it looks like the tally is now
12 or 13 entire metro
8 KCMO (2 are non-criminal homicides)

Got Independence one, Northland muder last night, makes the new total
12 or 13 entire metro
9 KCMO (2 Non-Criminal, and 2 are Northland)
KCMO will most likely pass entire metro by March 10th I believe

Looks like KC might pass entire metro by end of the month, 2 dead in Northland last night, even though 435 and 210 where it happened is no mans land, i thought that was Randolph or Jackson County and not KCMO
12 or 13 entire metro
11 KCMO (2 Non-Criminal and 4 Northland)

I'm gonna tally this as entire metro because it looks like this party started in Independence and people are saying that hotel is in Randolph/Clay County, so this shooting could have ended deadly in Independence but they had to break the party up. I'm assuming its gang related.
Party in hotel room turns deadly - KansasCity.com (http://www.kansascity.com/2011/02/26/2684825/party-in-hotel-room-turns-deadly.html - broken link)
14 or 15 entire metro
9 KCMO (2 Non-Criminal and 2 Northland)
