I remember my Mom driving thru there and we marveled at the size and architecture of many of the houses.
I dated a girl who lived in Manor Oaks. This was in 1962 and the area was fairly complete. It had some homes to build on the northeast side. The young lady I dated lived on Markham Drive which was one block south of Mar-Bec Trail. I'm guessing that it was started in late 1950s, but might have been 1960. I can ask my wife, but in 1959, she was only seven. I'm pretty sure it was farm land prior to the addition.

Debi said that her father built a house on Crysler north of 35th and south of 32nd and he built it in 1958 or 1959. Houses existed further back in Manor Oaks when they started construction. Her recollection was that some on the west side of the addition, which are quite a bit smaller, were built long before her father built his. That would lead me to believe that the concept of Manor Oaks as it is known today, was probably planned in the mid-1950s.

As a senior at Truman in 1969, Debi used to work in a pediatrician's office and Mrs. Maris used to bring her children in to see Doctor VanBibber or Pugh. That would mean that Maris lived at the Mar-Bec Trail home from at least 1961 until 1969. I may do a search on zillow to find out when homes were built there.

Drs. VanBibber & Pugh were my pediatricians around the late '50s-early '60s. Just the other day I was trying to recall where their office was located.

Their office was on the NE corner of Truman and Forest.

Erickson Road is in that general vicinity.

In looking for that information I could not find anything but I thought it was interesting that an Independence Historical Survey, September 30, 1976, notes in several places that Santa Fe Trail ruts exist at 3137 S Erickson.

Google Earth could not get me to that address, where ever it is.

Wow! That confirmed my assumptions.

Thanks! No longer there, then. No wonder I haven't seen it. Was remembering a smallish, brick building.
