The Starlet Drive-In finally shows up in the 59 Polk's. No mention in 54 or 57. It was in the oddly-numbered section of US 24, 1619 W. where Forest intersects. The place is now a children's dental office.
Yep, S.E. Corner of 24 & Forrest. Facebook buddies helped with this too.

The Morning Star. The Mormom newspaper. Dont know the editor but he was eventually tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail.

Check that: The Evening and Morning Star.

I was in southeast Kansas over a three day weekend. An item appeared in a local newspaper saying that indoor plumbing was put in the White House in 1853. Today there are 35 bathrooms in the white House according to the article.

That "35" figure indexed my RAM and I recall that during the 1960 census, there were still 34 outhouses in use within the city of Independence.

Thirteen years earlier, when my family lived on Devon Street in 1946-47, we had an outhouse.

When we moved to Harkless Street in 1948, that area had just became part of Independence but we had indoor plumbing connected to a cesspool. I do not recall seeing outhouses in that area but I am sure there had to have been a few.

The city put sewer lines down Harkless and the other annexed area streets in the fifties. After connection to the sewer, the cesspool conveniently caved in.

Wow, you're good!

What connection do Dick, Jane, and Ms. Julesberg have to each other and Independence?

I thought it was connect the dot, not connect the spot!
