We will be moving out to Lee's Summit in early Spring to be closer to my daughter's private school. We are currently living in downtown Kansas City and absolutely LOVE it. We feel right at home here and so does our 12 year old daughter. But the drive to her school every day is just getting to be too much. So we have decided to buy a house in the burbs. We would really like to be in a neighborhood where the houses have some character, not cookie cutter. Ideally, we would love to live in New Longview Farms but it's a little out of our price range, which is $200-250. We talked about looking for a house in downtown Lee's Summit, which would be great to be in walking distance to all the shops, but my husband doesn't really want to deal with an old house again. We stumbled upon the area called Arborwalk. I REALLY liked the houses and the area. Was wondering if anybody on this forum lives in this area or knows anything about it. I did see a post about it that said it was a great idea but was a bit of a ghost town. But that was from a few years back. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I'm just really worried we are going to buy a house in a community that feels not very "communityish" and desolate. We thrive on connecting with neighbors and feeling like we are a part of a community.

Arborwalk seems too isolated and small to really get a good new urbansim community feel. I'm sure it's okay, but it's what you want. I would try to make New Longview work. That development is getting rather large and still growing. Are teardowns happening at all near Downtown LS? Maybe you could potentialy buy or build a new home in that area.

I looked at Arborwalk 6 years ago, loved the concept and homes but I thought it was just too far to drive to work downtown. If one worked in SE KC or LS, Indep, BS, it would seem to be a lovely place to live

kcmo-I think you're right. New Longview would have a much more community feel to it. I have driven through Arborwalk a couple of times since posting this and it just seems so isolated and far away. I originally fell in love with the charm of the area, but I think it's slowly fading for me.

So, we are under contract on an Arborwalk home. New Longview Farms was out of our price range and Arborwalk is super close to our daughters school. I just feel bad that my husband has to drive downtown for work everyday. I'm hoping we will love the neighborhood and it will be worth it.
