Default opinions on Grain Valley, please!!

My family is relocating for a job in Kansas City (downtown) and we were told to look for good schools in Lee's Summit, Blue Springs and Grain Valley. I checked all these area and read this site. Lee's and Blue are nice, but Grain Valley is small with only one school and not alot of kids, like the country town I am from in Pennsylvania, Please give me your opinions from the home staters, you can only learn so much from computers and websites

We have lived in Grain Valley and it is a nice town, my grandkids go to school there and love it. It is close enough to KC and yet still has the small town atmosphere. There is plenty of housing here. Close to shopping...a lot of new development going on. I work here also.

Grain Valley is a nice area. You've been told some good info. when you were told to check out B.S., G.V. and L.S. If the small town feel is what you prefer, than G.V. will be much more what you would want than the other 2. However, L.S. still has a very nice old downtown that has stayed traditional but had some updating too. Schools are probably better in L.S. too. Close to KC also. You might like Greenwood. There you'd get more of a small town feel than L.S. but still get the L.S. school district. It's located just a bit S.E. of L.S. off of 150 Hwy. I think that is something you should check into for sure. Good Luck w/ your move!!!! I've been a lifelong resident!

YEP! Greenwood is in Jackson County. Greenwood has it's own police dept. and City Hall but is w/in the Lee's Summit school district. Highschool would be the new Lee's Summit West. When looking at a map - look just South of central Lee's Summit. Located East of the 291 Hwy and 150 Hwy intersection. 150 Hwy. runs through Greenwood - also known as Main Street w/in Greenwood.

I'm new to the area and drove through Grain Valley for the first time yesterday. It seemed nice enough, small but definitely growing. I grew up in a rural area of PA and I can't imagine sending children to the enormous high schools I saw in Lee's Summit. I know it's known to be a great district but growing up it felt good to know every teacher in the school and just about every student in my grade. My husband and I are trying to decide where to buy here, and Lee's Summit is great but I think the large schools would be a deal breaker for me. We also went through Blue Springs, which was nice. All three towns are on our "maybe" list.

Blue Springs will be pretty close in size to L.S. schools. You might look into Lone Jack.....

Default No one has mentioned Pleasant Hill

While I shouldn't mention this because we are overflowing, Pleasant Hill is a wonderful town. The schools are the best around especially if you are musical! There are at least 4 new subdivisions going in right now and the population has exploded since we moved here 12 years ago. It still has the small town feel but is only 35 minutes from downtown KC.
Greenwood is a small town surrounded by Lee's Summit so it almost isn't a small town anymore but it is nice. Lee's Summit is the big city to me when you compare it to the towns around like Grain Valley and Pleasant Hill. Lee's Summit is just a suburb of KC now as there really is no open ground around it anymore. Have fun looking! There are lots of good choices and you just have to find the one that fits your family.

Pleasant Hill would also be a good choice. However, it is in Cass County. I didn't read up into the post again but I think I remember hearing you needed to be in Jackson County?!?!?! Grain Valley is right next to Oak Grove...both very similar in what they have to offer.

Default You'll like Grain Valley! And the schools are great!

Grain Valley is a wonderful little town. I have lived here for several years now, and I can say that I feel completely safe and at home here. Also, I am a teacher, and speaking as such, I can say that it is every teacher's dream to get a job for the Grain Valley school district because it is such a wonderful district. Just thought I'd let you know that as well! Feel free to contact me with any other questions!
