It's happening. Starting with 20 stations and 200 bikes. Downtown only for now but more stations than I expected to start with. Kudos to The City and Blue Cross/Shield for making it happen. Plaza, Westport and UMKC could use it next.

Would like to see a bike station at virtually every MAX stop. UMKC could use a station at the ZipCar rental location.

Just glad to see it's actually happening. Should be up and running by this summer.

Great for the city and the people, but where are the specific bike lanes in the urban core? I have not seen any bike only lanes like there are in the suburbs. Is the city planning on making the streets bikeable.

Yes, the City is working on bike lanes from Crown Center to River Market. Frankly I don't care for bike lanes on busy streets as they give a false sense of security. Low traffic streets like Walnut/Wyandotte don't need bike lanes, so not sure what value bike lanes downtown would provide.

I bike around midtown often and downtown once in a while and have no issues by taking less busy streets (mostly just cross busy streets). I suppose it would be nice to have a contiguous path from Brookside to Downtown but I hope it's not on a busy street like Grand, Broadway or Main.

Crown Center to River Market is good. How about streets with bike lanes (I happen to favor them anywhere) near the Plaza and UMKC and the Art Museums, as well as a downtown-plaza connection. What about streets in the Loop? How about one along 10th or 12th? When is the city supposed to start working on adding the bike lanes?

Not sure when bike lanes in city core will happen but it's apparently on the Mayor's agenda - Crown Center to River Market was mentioned in one of the articles.. The bikeshare program is pushing the effort.

The map is up for the first 12 bike stations downtown. Rates are also up. Should startup in July before the All Star game.

When it's running, clicking on a station will show how many bikes are available at the station. There are also Android/iPhone apps to check on status of stations.
