A friend posted to FB this morning that they're opening an office at 43rd and State Line -- I imagine he saw it because he lives quite close to there.

Yeah, that is apparently the local Google office and is where they are making the announcement. They probably wanted to be near KU Med, which is one of the reasons they selected KC.

Two more hours for announcement of the awesomeness...

Wow, this exceeded my expectations. The TV service is significant and includes a Nexus 7 Android tablet as the remote...

$0 Free 5MB Internet ($300 setup/construction fee or can pay $25 month)
$70/month 1Gbit network only
$120/month 1Gbit + TV + Nexus 7 tablet as remote

Google Fiber

I'm not able to register. It says it doesn't know my address. Eek.

Reading a lot of news reports (there are hundreds of reports via news.google.com), many are responding they want to move to KC for this. Even if a small portion actually make the move, this should help the urban core of KCMO given that it's not available in N or S KCMO and most would rather live in central KCMO than KCK. This could stir economic development and residential development more than anyone would expect. There are a lot of people outside of KC jealous of this. And there are plenty of tech jobs open here too. I don't know if this will attract business directly but a population boost in downtown/midtown could suddenly happen in the next year - and home values go up. The downside, rental rates may go up - a good problem to have. All too early to tell but the initial reaction is pretty positive and the service looks good enough to make a tangible difference. People want this, especially techies.

^Are you in an apartment?

USPS calls us 2N (which makes no sense because the other half of our 4-plex has a separate address), but Google wouldn't accept that so we just said 2 and then it worked.

Sounds like they might have a few more kinks to work out.

Hanover Heights (the neighborhood on the kck side just south of ku med) already has 10% of the neighborhood registered. That's bad ass.

I'm in a condo hirise. It must know my building because it said I had to put in unit number for the address and it added 'road' to my street. Yet it then said it doesn't know this address. It has an option to submit new address, which I did so hope they add it or my building may not get it.

How do you check on neighborhood status?

When you're on that main cities page you can click on either KCMO or KCK and it pulls up a Google map with an overlay of who's above or below goal.

I tried to register and it said Google fiber is only available in KCMO. Well, I LIVE in KCMO, albeit in Clay County. Zip Code 64156. Is this only for KCMO in Jackson County???

Well, I pay a heck of a lot more than $120 a month to Time Warner. I'd gladly pay $120 for Google Fiber. But when I try to register it says it's not available yet in my area (Prairie Village).
