It was around 2:30 am on Sunday morning. I noticed they had Westport block off as they usually do but this they had all entries blocked off (Broadway, Mill St, all the other side streets) and there were police on horses. I can't find anything on any of the news sites but then again they don't seem to report crime in Westport anymore.

Was it blocked off for something for Pride, maybe?

It seems like stuff would have been wrapped up by that point, though...and my understanding was that P&L was the hosting venue for most Pride stuff this year.

^That's my thought. There were a lot of people down there earlier in the evening for sure.

In the summer, they tend to block off the Westport streets just about every weekend.

I like this site for finding out what's going on in your nexk of the woods.
Community Policing & Neighborhood Crime Statistics | CrimeReports.com

And the idea that the media doesn't cover crime in Westport is ludicrous. They love to cover crime in Westport. Westport is full of crimes of opportunity -- not exactly man bites dog kind of stuff.

Yes but there's a pretty big difference between violent crimes like rape and murder and your typical destination neighborhood crimes of opportunity often alcohol fueled -- like aggravated assault (which, in Westport is almost always bar related fights) and basic muggings. Westport has very few of the former.

Name a major urban bar district in any city that doesn't have relatively more incidents than non-bar districts. Kinda pointless to say Westport has occasional violent crime - gasp, really. If you compare to itself, it's not as bad as it used to be. Westport is turning more into a neighborhood bar district than a metro party zone. Still is a metro attraction to some degree but crime incidents have decreased ever since P&L became the major weekend party zone. P&L has had its share of gun related incidents too - as have many bar districts across the US.

That said, wish they would get rid of America's Pub... it's the major trouble bar left.
