Hi

I have a friend that's moving down here in two weeks. Can you name any good neighborhoods within the city or suburbs? Price range is 500-750k for the Suburbs, 400k to 500 for the city. It's a family of five with a newborn.

Thanks.

Most of us would consider those price ranges high end for this area. The one that comes to mind right away is the Briarcliff development (on the Missouri side of the state line), especially if your friend will be working within the city limits of KCMO and is looking for decent public schools. It has nice topography (hilly, and sits high up) and is well located with good highway access to downtown, the airport, and shopping. Can you be more specific about the type of dwelling your friend is looking for?

Are they not able to visit before moving? Best if they actually post to describe what they are looking for.

Here is a good site to look for homes...

Pretty much anywhere with over $500K homes won't suck, but there's not much detail you have provided.

I would highly suggest the Brooside area if they have an interest in semi-urban living. the housing stock is gorgeous and the neighborhood is vibrant, walkable and safe.

They will visit on on Aug 1. They would like a kid friendly neighborhood that's clean.

Brookside, UMKC and Plaza area (47th to 63rd along Main, Wornall, Rockhill, Ward Parkway) would probably be first choice of most for inner ring suburbs and would have neighborhood services nearer to the scale of Toronto suburbs. There are many many outer ring burbs that are pretty sprawled, might be a shock to someone from Canada, as Canada has much better pedestrian scale suburbs than in the States. What are the expectations, especially for schools?

BTW, here's a city guide, which gives perspective of Brookside/Plaza in relation to rest of city core.
