Here's a new migration study that is a bit hard to decipher...

The Urbanophile » Blog Archive » New Data Shows Slowing Migration in America

This is from the perspective of Chicago - their gains/losses. Shows KC is slightly gaining from Chicago in both raw pops and income, which is inline with past studies...

Raw net migration... going to KC/STL, most to Indianapolis...

Income net migration... KC slightly gains, STL slightly losing to Chicago. Indy gaining most...

The NYC numbers are odd. It says KC lost $33M income to NYC in 2001, KC gained around 2003/2004 and then slightly lost in 2009. Other migration studies show KC slightly gaining from NYC from 2000-2005. Says STL lost even more to NYC, which doesn't make sense as other studies show STL gained from NYC.

I haven't spent much time deciphering this but I think this is the case according to the study. I suspect the blogger doesn't fully understand the data, it mentions net gains/loss but then makes assumptions it's a gain for NYC.
