Anybody like to camp? Where do you go?

I've always gone down to the Huzzah and Courtois river area down off 44, but that's more than a 4 hour drive from here -- too long for a weekend away!

Roaring River State Park is pretty sweet, you can get there in about 3 hours.

Truman Lake on the Missouri side. Also Bennett Springs. On the Kansas side, Clinton Lake near Lawrence, Pomona Lake near Topeka, Hillsdale Lake.

In addition to Roaring River you can take a nice side trip to Eureka Springs Arkansas, a really neat artistic mountain town

I love Eureka Springs, but I really want somewhere within an easy drive for short weekend getaways.

Our favorite campground is right at 4 hours away -- I'm looking for something less than half that so we could get out there after work on a Friday and set up the tent before dark.

You could check out John Redmond Reservoir off of I-35 in Kansas.

My in-laws lived nearby. We would camp on the weekends and go boating.
Certainly, not as pretty as scenic Missouri camping, but it's fairly close. The drive is about an 1 1/2 - 2 hours from Overland Park.

Although I have never been to Tuttle Creek near Manhattan, I have heard that it is very nice.
