There's a potential job in Overland Park but before I even apply I'm interested in knowing more about this area.

The main things I'm looking for:
1. As little car dependency as possible
2. Access to a power lifting gym (looking online it looks like that's Steele Gym and Fitness or 1-0-7 Barbell)
3. Jazz lounges and dance clubs
4. Art scene
5. Food - I'm talking quality grocery store preferably a Costco nearby as well

So I'd probably be looking at something near downtown to take on number 1. How long of a commute would it be to then get out to work in overland park every day? Google says its only 11.8 miles, roughly 20 minutes. So what in morning commute about 30 minutes? I can live with that having lived in Orlando and Miami.

What neighborhood should I be looking at to maximize the nightlife opportunities without having to drive outside of the commute to work? Is there any public transit option that will take a person from downtown to Overland Park?
909 Walnut St, Kansas City, MO 64105 to 7900 Sante Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS - Google Maps
Shows me that I could take the 664 bus to work which is fine by me the hr ride.

Hmm at price though let me see if this would be worth it -
roughly 25 miles a day @ 20mi/gal = 1.2 gal / day = roughly 4.15/day x 24 (Saturdays is required) = over $80. So ya its worth it at least until I can afford to buy a Hybrid.

Does this all seem correct so far to you all? What actual neighborhood should I be looking at? Is there anything I'm missing? Steele Fitness looks a good ways North of downtown, anyone know if there is another powerlifting gym?

Thanks all!
Plan on calling the company to talk to them tomorrow about the opportunity and what I can offer to see if they're even interested.

Will you be working in downtown OP? OP is pretty big and the office parks go pretty far south. But for the most part, it would be a reverse commute. I wouldn't even think about transit, especially with a reverse commute.

It says "Historic Overland Park" around Santa Fe Drive. Why wouldnt you consider transit for it? No good or is the drive so easy it would be unnecessary?

Because you could drive there so much faster. Overland Park has very little transit and the transit it does have it designed for people commuting to downtown kcmo, not from.

Downtown OP is much closer to urban kcmo than most of the office park areas down south.

You could live anywhere in the central urban corridor of kcmo (river to plaza) and be within 20-30 minutes of downtown op.

Downtown OP is not a bad place at all though, much better than the sprawlling office parks out south. I didn't know they had many jobs there though.

I would probably just live downtown. They have a real nice grocery and there is a costco in midtown on the max bus line.

Thanks but doesn't matter, when I called they basically said despite what their job posting says about looking for someone with experience in design and sales they're only actually looking at people with art gallery experience. My experience from the advertising/publishing side isn't sufficient to them :\ Ah well back to the drawin board.

Since I'm out of the running if anyone else is interested the job is at Prairiebrooke Galleries (Prairiebrooke Galleries - Great art for home, work and inspiration.) - best of luck to anyone whom decides to apply.
