Hi all,

I am currently living in Nebraska and am planning on moving to KC sometime before the snow flies. I have a place, but am curious as to where I may be able to find work. I recently graduated from college, and have been working on an organic farming/livestock operation for the duration of the summer. I would love to be able to find work similar to this in the KC area. Any information on local farming or livestock operations would be very much appreciated. Feedlot work is also not out of the question, although I am not preferable to this. I also have some veterinary experience, so working alongside a vet would be great. Preferably large animals as opposed to pets...

Thank you for taking the time to read this!

Cali

For large animal veterinary you'll need to be looking outside of the main metro area to the bedroom communities. Since KC sits between two major veterinary colleges (K-State & MU) we have oodles of small animal veterinarians in the metro area.

You might check with the state veterinary associations of Missouri & Kansas as well as getting a list of organic farms through the Missouri and Kansas Dept.'s of Agriculture or county extension offices surrounding the Kansas City metro area.

For feedlot work, you'd be better looking in Western KS and South Dakota, than the KC area IMO.

Hey thanks. I did do some searching before on organic producers in the area. There's actually quite a few down there...more vegetables than anything I think. But for sure I'll keep looking; probably end up just driving around talkin' to people. Good way to meet the neighbors!
As far as the veterinary, I complete forgot about that, so yes that's something for me to keep in mind. A small country vet would be what I'm looking for anyways.
