Supposedly not a done deal yet, but that's the plan.

If the Kemper's wants to do it with private money, then fine. Otherwise, KCMO should spend 60 million on improving transit, building a convention hotel, fixing streets and sidewalks, building bike lanes and trails etc.

The Kempers are a main reason the city put 20 million into Kemper Arena when that should have been a down payment on a new arena.

I was sick to my stomach when KC passed those bonds to expand kemper. I knew it was a complete and total waste of money and the city still lost most concerts, the big 12 etc after spending that money on kemper which forced the city to build Sprint. (I have a feeling Kauffman stadium will be in the same boat in 2020 after the county spent 250-300 million to renovate a stadium in a bad location when it would have cost 300-350 million to build a new park downtown).

The american royal is not going to pay for this. It just doesn't bring that much revenue to the city, especially since the city lost the FFA convention. Make use of Kemper or build a new venue with private money. If KC can build a 420 million dollar arts center, then it can find a way to fund a 60 million dollar 6000 seat equestrian arena.

KC needs to FINISH building out downtown and fill in a lot of gaps and build some transit before trying to redevelop places like the west bottoms and river front. Stay focussed KC, you need critical mass. Like I said, great if Kemper and pull it off, he's always pushed for this ag stuff. He tried to replace the FFA organization after the left for Louisville and as far I can tell, has failed. But this should not be a top priority for city funds IMO.

I remember that. Seems like a waste of a good building to raze it. But Here in Orlando we have a new arena and the older TD Waterhouse center is going to be razed in December. guess that's progress... seems wasteful to me.
