Ok, we all know the famous BBQ places here.. but what about some of the smaller Mom & Pop places? While I love BBQ, and the large famous places are good, I also like to take my business to the smaller guys when I can.

Whats the best small BBQ place youve been to here in the KC area? What was the best item they had? And where are they located?

Thanks!

KC Dave

Don't want to hi-jack this thread but can someone tell me if Boyd 'N Son is still around? I have a friend heading to KC next week and I heard Boyd is one of the best but I haven't been able to locate them on yelp or even google maps.

Hillsdale Bank BBQ: Uses locally grown produce and meat. No salt on their meat, they let the smoke do the work. It's delicious, has great sauce, and is in a sweet old building/train car.

My favorite of the smaller/lesser known and not-as-likely-to-be-in-travel-guides ones are B.B.'s Lawnside BBQ, on 85th Street between Troost and Hwy 71 (it's got near-constant live blues, the sauce is apple cider vinegar-based, and it has a few dishes that you won't find at other KC staples), and Fillin' Station BBQ in downtown Lee's Summit (old gas station, great beans, and I usually hate beans).

Quick's and Woodyard are both on Merriam Lane in Rosedale, which is southeast KCK, and are excellent.

Quick's ribs are probably among the top 3 in town. Woodyard's meat is pretty uniformly great, but nothing there is the best in town...except the atmosphere, which is awesomely roadhousey and authentic.
