Has anyone been to the First Night celebration in St louis? Any other suggestions for family friendly celebrations in Mo or KS? Preferably something heavy on live music.
Thanks.

Hyatt always has a huge party, not sure if they will still do that or not since they are now a Sheraton.

I did this with a gf 3-years ago and it was a really good time.

Sorry for the thread jack, but I was wondering if most places would be closed on the 1st? Planning on coming down for a day trip, but would not if a lot of places/restaurants/attractions were closed.

I agree, most places are closed, there's no way to go out in your new year, it's better to stay with your family and spend your new years eve with them.

Use the website called Open Table, you will be able to reserve a restaurant on this site but it will also tell you which ones are open on January 1st. You also get points for dining which land you gift certificates.

I've never been down there, but I know a couple of families who go every year. I don't think it's one of St. Louis' top-tier events (and it's one of the few that isn't free), but I've also heard it's a great time for families.

Here's a great little write up from the Patch about what to expect:

I am an opentable member, but I was looking more at local attractions/shopping to go with friends who are visiting us.

Thanks for the replies and info. all. Maybe next year we'll try out the St. Louis thing...looks like fun. First night is a great event and we have enjoyed it in other cities where we have lived.
In the end we took a road trip to visit old friends down south a bit.
All the best for 2012 ya'll.
