My husband and I are relocating to the KC area and are looking for an apartment for about 6 months until we find a home to buy. He will be working in Lenexa, and as we are unfamiliar with the area, can you recommend towns/neighborhoods we should avoid?

Obviously we will look for housing near his work, but I do not work and we are on a limited budget (we have a 3-month old baby)-safety is a priority. We are trying to find a 2 bedroom apartment for around $600/month. So far, this area seems to be a bit expensive.

How is Grandview? There seems to be more affordable housing there. Any other areas we should look into? Thanks so much!!!

^N JoCo (Merriam, North Overland Park) is cheap. Would consider that area before Grandview.

Try looking with padmapper.com, my new favorite apartment-hunting tool: Apartments for Rent in Kansas City - PadMapper Map-Based Apartment Search (Oodle, Apartments.com, Rent.com, and Craigslist)

A couple I found real quick from there:

900ft² - Do you like to cook?
960ft² - 2-BEDROOM SHAWNEE KANSAS
Brownstone at Overland Park
650ft² - 2BR - METCALF LANE APTS - 913-488-4129
