The Big 12 is getting ready to sign a 12 year, 2.6 billion dollar TV deal with ESPN which means MU leaving the SEC for more money is actually no longer true. The TV deal is bigger than what the SEC currently has which means MU will actually have less conference revenue in the SEC than they would have had if they stayed in the Big 12. It's funny how things work out sometimes. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

You misread it. The deal with ESPN will be 1.3 billion. Which, when added to the current FOX deal will equal 2.5 billion -- that's where that headline number is coming from.

The take per school per year will still be higher for the SEC teams.

That said, this is a great get for the Big 12 and should go a long way towards shoring up the conference.

Read it and weep! The #1 conference in America is getting richer! The little 12 can't compete with the SEC. Never has, never will.
When they refer to "name" brand they are referring to FOOTBALL! Basketball is an afterthought yet the SEC still outdraws the little 12.
The little 12's numbers are going down in 2012 while the SEC's go up with the addition of Mizzou and the Aggies.

Alabama | MrSEC

The SEC gets higher ratings for its television partners than any other conference. The league is synonymous with championships.
It just added two new “name” brands to its roster of schools and tapped into the cable household-rich states of Missouri and Texas in the process.

Whether the league simply squeezes more cash — a lot more cash — out of CBS and ESPN or creates its very own network —
something that we were the first to discuss right here back in the spring of 2010 — the Southeastern Conference is about
to set the standard for television revenue again.

2011 Average TV Viewers for Football

1. SEC = 4.44 million
2. Big Ten = 3.26 million
3. ACC = 2.65 million
4. Big 12 = 2.34 million
5. Pac-12 = 2.10 million
6. Big East = 1.88 million

2011 Average TV Viewers for Basketball

1. Big Ten = 1.49 million
2. ACC = 1.24 million
3. SEC = 1.22 million
4. Big 12 = 1.06 million
5. Big East = 1.04 million
6. Pac-10 (pre-expansion) = .78 million

Add those averages up and the SEC sat at 5.66 million average viewers prior to gaining viewers in Missouri and Texas while the
Big 12 topped out at 3.40 million average viewers… before downgrading in brand name and in cable households.

Somehow you manage to complete ignore the fact that the Big 12's new TV deal is bigger than the SEC's and go on some meaningless rant about ratings. Of course the SEC has higher ratings, all people do in SEC territory is watch college sports. That means nothing. The new Big 12 deal gives the schools more TV revenue than the SEC schools have. It's a fact and cannot be disputed but why focus on facts.

How can you be a Kansas Citian and a college sports fan and speak so poorly of the Big 12. The conference that is part of the culture of where you live? Just because you are leaving the conference doesnt mean you have to speak so poorly of the conference you called home for decades.Modcut-inflamatory/personal attaks

If this was about the Big 8 teams then you could claim "legacy" and "culture".
That isn't the case unfortunately.

The B12 was born to die, anyone paying attention could see admitting the TX schools was not a good move for the Big 8. When they moved the B12 offices out of KC it become inevitable. TX had too much power and along with OU lorded it over the other schools.

Legacy? How about Norm Stewart's legacy of valuing a Big 8 Championship more than a NCAA title. The B12's legacy is an exit door.

Hahaha this pic is hilarious. Won the BIG12 TOURNAMENT and after put on his sec shirt. I'm sorry but that is funny. I do feel he could have showed a little more class than that, but hey it is what it is. They won the big 12 and moving on. With that being said don't forget where you came from. now im not saying yall should carry the big 12 everywhere you go while members of the sec, but I do feel you should have better respect of the conference that you came from. If Kansas were to leave and go to a different conference and act the way mizzou and fans have been acting yall would be in an uproar. Anyways I do want to congratulate mizzou on leaving the BIG 12 with a bang. A little upset but again they were the better team that night.
