Missouri's dropping MAP testing after this year, since are some of the hardest in the country.

Next year there will be some kind of end-of-course exam.

Oak Park is in the NKC school district or did you mean Oak Grove?

Lsautism is on a distinguished road
Never get information about school districts from the school district. Interview families that have children in the district. As far as Missouri. They are 46th in the country in education. They are trying to find ways to lower their standards so that they will meet federal guidelines. I have more information about this if you are interested.

Default I Love Kc!

The last person sounded so down on KC. I think the only thing that would make it a bad place to be is if you don't have any friends. Anywhere is bad without friends!

I was born and raised in KC. I have lived on the Missouri side most of my life, but spent a few years living on the Kansas side.

Here's my opinion...
Stay away from downtown. I think it's the same with most cities.
On the Missouri side, I prefer North Kansas City and Gladstone. Gladstone is a nice, well established community with lots of community events, churches, and a real feel of closeness. Gladstone is part of the North Kansas City School District - good district. This is different from the KC school district. They are very messed up!! Another area that is nice and will have a lot more shopping is the Kansas City/Parkville area. I'm not referring to downtown Parkville - that is very small and quaint. I'm referring to areas on the west side of town from I-29 and Barry Rd west to 435 and south to 64th Street. This area has always been nice, but is really booming right now with lots of new shopping areas and housing. It has a lot to choose from with a wide price range of houses.
On the Kansas side, Overland Park, Olathe, Lenexa ~ all very nice and more "upscale". Pretty much anything in Johnson County. The farther north, the smaller and older it is. Farther south, like the Blue Valley area, is a much more expensive area (compared to the rest of KC).
I hope some of this helps. I think making friends will be the most important factor for you. Let me know if you want to know about churches in the area. That's a great way to get plugged in.
Linda

I think the Grandview area is a very nice place to live. They have some pretty nice apartments there. If you're interested in purchasing a home, that is a pretty ideal place for that also. It is close to the highway - and the highway has recently been upgraded. I have lived in the grandview area for over 15 years.
