Thanks for your help guys, but I really would like to live in the city. The main reason I applied for jobs in the area is specifically to live in KC.

Yes, safety is my main concern if I'm living in the city. I listed only places in KC, and I also noted my concern about being bored with living in a more suburban area such as Zona Rosa. I'm sorry if there was any miscommunication on my part.

I wouldn't personally live in fear if I lived in the Rivermarket, just saying.

However, I do not know the current costs of various housing there, either.

I'm not sure of any specific buildings to look at, but if your haven't, be sure to check out padmapper.com -- it combines Craigslist, Rent.com and Apartment.com listings into an eay to use map format. It's my new favorite relocation tool.

Also, be prepared for a lot of them to have income restrictions -- you're not going to qualify for those. You see a lot of those downtown because the developer used tax incentives to rehab the property and, as such, is required to rent a certain percent of the building at below market rate.

To the OP,

Don't live in Liberty. Not as exciting as the city. And Zona Rosa doesn't really seem like an "it" spot. You are looking for something within budget, safe, and within the city yet close enough to work?

A loft in River Market or an apartment in Quality Hill may be your best bets. They are both safe districts, and if you look well enough, there are affordable options available.
