That I'm not sure what the answer would be. A quick phone call to the county assessor's office could answer that for you. Another thing while I'm thinking of it, Buchanan Co does not pro-rate the property tax bill. The bill goes to whomever owned that property Jan 1st of that year. That worked out good for me considering I closed on my land on Jan 3rd!!

I'm in Lee's Summit. My home is assessed at a value of $187,900. My real estate taxes are $3,600 a year. My taxes on my cars are $700 a year. My cars are 3 years old and 6 years old. Lee's Summit gets its water from other towns and my water bill is at least $80 a month. My electric bill is $125.00 a month in the winter and $350 in the summer. That's keeping the air at 75. My monthly trash bill is $16. If your children do extra curricular activities expect to pay more. Music is required and I had to pay $80 a piece for choir dresses. It pays to look into all of these things. Realtors only list what has been paid on taxes in the past. Not what you WILL be paying.

Default Check ALL your taxes

There are property taxes on your home, car (I never had this in IL or IA), boat and airplane. State and city (1% in KC) income taxes. Sales taxes. Add them all up to compare.

I thought my taxes would be lower when I moved to MO, but +$500/yr for my cars and the 1% Kansas City tax put us right back up there.

It's all a game with the politicians.

Wow, lots of taxes. I will be moving soon to KC from OH. Can someone tell me if the taxes as high/the same if you live in Smithville or Kearney or Liberty? I would like to avoid surprises too.
